Windhoek (Namibia), Oct 12 (IANS): Two first half goals saw hosts Namibia beat neighbours Zambia 2-0 in a thrilling opening match of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women Championship played at a packed Sam Nujoma Stadium here.
Namibia dominated play from the onset and were duly rewarded in the fourth minute when Rita Williams scrambled the ball into the net from close range, reports Xinhua.
Namibia continued to dominate in the first and Zambia never really threatened the opposition goal.
However, Zambia's tricky winger Kabange Mupopo came close to levelling the score line in the 16th minute after she waltzed past the Namibian defence only for the ball to go outside for a goal kick.
Namibia soon doubled its lead in the 21st minute when the player of the match Thomalina Adams scored from a free-kick just outside the box to send the crowd into a frenzy.
