Kasargod, Oct 11: Idukki Kutpadi police on Saturday October 11 arrested the main accused in transporting 50 kg of ganja in a stolen car earlier this year.
The arrested has been identified as Idukki resident Jismon alias Rojas(26).
During routine vehicle inspection exercise, the police stopped his bike and realizing that he was the prime accused in the ganja case, arrested him. A revolver, laptop and mobile phones were recovered from him. A car was also seized from his house. The police said that the car was stolen.
He was the main accused in transporting 50 kg of ganja in a stolen car to Kasargod on April 30 this year. The car, a mobile phone and a laptop were robbed by the team led by Rojas after assaulting a software engineer in Bangalore. The stolen car was later used for supplying ganja to Kerala.
As per the information obtained by the police, on May 4 morning when the police were on patrol, the car had sped past them and escaped. When the car was chased, the car driver had lost control near Mogral Puttur guest house, hit a roadside boulder near railway tracks and stopped.
Police had succeeded in arresting Rojas' accomplice Joy Joseph during the incident. Rojas and another accomplice had managed to escape.
The police got several clues after questioning the arrested accused. They obtained information about Jismon about whom the police were inquiring for many months. In the meanwhile Jismon had involved in several criminal cases in Idukki police station area. Several cases have been registered against him and his gang for stealing cars.
Police also informed that the accused is wanted in a rape case in Kannur Payangadi. Police have said that Rojas has admitted that he had transported ganja from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Odisha and other places to Kerala.
