Mangalore, Oct 10: Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE (India Unit), in association with Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and parishioners of Balkunje Church will organize a one-day workshop for Konkani students studying in Class V-Class X under the theme, ‘Aaj Ami Konkani Ulavyam’ (Let’s Speak Konkani Today) on Sunday November 2 at Balkunje from 8 am to 5 pm.

There will be an entry fee of Rs 100 to take care of expenses towards transport, food, and refreshments. The participants will receive prizes and certificates.

Students from Mangalore will travel from Kankanady by bus at 8 am and will reach back by 7 pm. Parents are not expected to travel with the students as complete safety and security arrangements will be made by the organizers with the involvement of the local community associations.

As part of this workshop, children will be introduced to nature and will be taken around the traditional rural houses, plantations, fields, jungles, water streams, and they will be briefed about Konkani culture and heritage, occupations, names of different living species and their specialities. At the end of a trekking expedition, the participants will be involved in debate, quiz, and other entertainment segments.

Students coming from both rural as well urban backgrounds are encouraged to share their experience at the end of the day and explain why such interaction is important and how it adds up to knowing their mother tongue more closely, practically, and scientifically.

A similar workshop was organized last year by Daiji Dubai in Kinnigoli that attracted more than 150 participants both from Mangalore city and the outskirts drawn from different Konkani-speaking communities.

Since there are only a few spots available, the organizers request the parents to register their wards at the earliest by contacting any of the following:

Vitori Karkal - 9845209374, Royston Kiran – 9740276150, Vincent Pinto Angelore – 9481213196, Melreeda Rodrigues – 9483800512, and Rohith – 9980057740

Nominations are also accepted at the parish offices at Kirem, Balkunje, Mukamar, Belman, Santhurkopla, Palimar and Belman. Last date for registration is Friday October 31.
