Sweden hold Russia to 1-1 draw in Euro qualifier

Stockholm, Oct 10 (IANS) Sweden, minus star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, held Group G leaders Russia to a 1-1 draw in the Euro 2016 qualifiers here.

Russia, coached by former England manager Fabio Capello, still top Group G with four points from two games, the same tally as Montenegro, reports Xinhua.

Alexander Kokorin opened the score for Russia just 10 minutes into the match Thursday.

Sweden, who missed a penalty in the first half, had to wait till the 49th minute to find an equaliser when Ola Toivonen finished from close range.

The rest of the match was even, featuring multiple shots for both sides, but ultimately no more goals. Russia will see this as a point gained, while Sweden ultimately have to think of it as two dropped.
