Udupi, Oct 10: Police have registered cases against 20 people for abduction and assault of a youth.
The victim is Dinesh Amin (22) from Kadipatna near Padubidri.
It is alleged that Dinesh who works in a garage in Padubidri was taken forcibly in a car by a group of around 20 persons on Wednesday October 8 night. The group allegedly assaulted the victim on the way and also threatened him with dire consequences if he complained to the police. The group then fled abandoning the victim on the road.
The victim has been admitted to a hospital with injuries.
Dinesh, who works in the fishing industry in the mornings, started working in the garage as a diesel mechanic in the evenings only four months back.
The abductors have been named as Sujay, Shahana, Sandesh Shetty, Praveen and others.
A petty fight which had transpired a few days back at Padubidri beach has been blamed for this episode.
Police have registered the case amid pressure from a few groups to end the matter with a compromise, it is said.
It is said that the owner of the garage Santosh was also assaulted before the group abducted Dinesh.
Padubidri police are investigating.
