Siddharth ousts defending champion in national tennis


New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS): Delhi's Siddharth Rawat moved into the men's singles semi-finals with a 6-4, 6-0 win over defending champion Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash in a last-eight match of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championships here Thursday.

Siddharth will take on top seed Karunuday Singh, who beat V.M. Ranjit 6-4, 6-2, in the semi-finals Friday at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex.

Ronit Bisht also advanced to the semi-finals, downing fourth seed Nitten Kirrtane 0-6, 1-6 and will face Vishnu Vardhan next. Vishnu beat Chandril Sood 6-1, 6-1.

In the women’s singles quarter-finals, Vaishnavi Peddireddy defeated top seed Rishika Sunkara 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4 while Prerna Bhambri brushed aside Sharon Paul 6-3, 6-2 and Karman Kaur Thandi overcame Vaniya Dangwal 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Second seed Shweta Rana toppled Amrita Mukherjee 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
