Udupi: State mourns death of veteran journalist M V Kamath

Udupi, Oct 9: Thousands of mourners today paid their last respects to the Padma Bhushan
awardee, M V Kamath. He was the former editor of ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India’ and former Chairman of Prasar Bharati Board. He passed away on Thursday morning.

Last religious rites of M V Kamath will be performed later in the evening at Beedengudde burial ground in Udupi.

His dead body was kept for public viewing at Ravindra Kala Mantap in MGM College, Udupi. At 4 pm, the dead body was taken to his ancestral house in Kadabettu, Brahmagiri, Udupi.

The members of different political parties came to pay their last repect to the legend.

District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, paid his last respect in Kadbettu. He said "Death of renowned journalist M V Kamath is a great loss to the society. He is a famous writer who has worked for many national newspapers. He made our district proud with his work. His death is a huge loss to our nation."

Shobha Karandlaje , MP of Udupi Chikmangalur constituency and Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA, have sent their condolences through message.

The students of Manipal institution paid a tribute by remembering their best moments with him.

Youth Congress leader Amrith Shenoy, Ex Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, SP Rajendra Prasad, ACP Annamalai and H S Ballal paid their last respect to M V Kamath.

    GREAT PERSON WHO HAD
    WRITTEN ABOUT GOA INQUISITION, HOW HE HAD BEEN TO THE KULADEVATA TEMPLE AFTER THE PORTUGUESE WERE THROWN.HE PRAYED, LORD, WHEN PORTUGUESE WERE DESTROYING OUR FAITH AND CULTURE WHAT YOU WERE DOING.THE ANSWER WAS SILENCE. NOW THE GREAT MEN IS SILENT BUT HIS WORK WILL WAKE US UP WITH HISTORY.

    Sad to know that Journalist M.V.Kamath is no more.Great personality and soul.Genuine asset and treasure.Big loss not only to the journalism family,nation but also to entire udupi/Mangalore district.May his departed soul rest in peace.I extend my sincere condolence to the members of bereaved family

    M.V. Kamath was a great man. He was an Institution himself. I have known and admirer of MV Kamath from his days in Free Press Bulletin. His contribution to the Journalism cannot be measured. May his soul rest in peace.
