Mangalore, Oct 13: The Mulki police led by circle inspector Venkatesh Prasanna have arrested 3 persons, accused of murder attempt on local BJP leader Sukhanand Shetty on Thursday October 12.

The arrested have been identified as Nasir alias Abdul Nasir, Abdul Bashir alias Imtiaz and Mohammad Bashir alias Yekkur Bashir.  The police have also seized a car from the arrested.  The police have confiscated lethal weapons such as 2 sabres, 2 iron rods, a wooden club, a CD, 200 grams of brown sugar and a Kannada magazine.

However, the police said that the linchpin of the entire plan is still at large.  The accused had assaulted Sukhanand Shetty on Monday October 2 night.  The assault was seen as a repercussion of communal violence that broke out in Bajpe on October 1 after the members of a particular community protested against the exhibition of certain tableau during the Sharada Mahotsav.
