Brazil recall Spartak midfielder Romulo

Rio de Janeiro, Oct 6 (IANS): Brazil football coach Dunga has drafted Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo into his squad for friendlies against Argentina and Japan in Asia.

Romulo replaces Fernandinho, who suffered concussion in Manchester City's 2-0 Premier League victory at Aston Villa Saturday, Brazil's football confederation said on its official website Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Once considered one of Brazil's most promising central midfielders, 24-year-old Romulo has not represented the Selecao since suffering a serious knee injury in 2012.

Brazil will play Argentina in Beijing Oct 11 followed by a clash against Japan in Singapore three days later.

Romulo is the fourth injury-enforced addition to Brazil's squad since Dunga named his original 22-man squad for the friendlies last month.

Sao Paulo midfielders Kaka and Souza have replaced Cruzeiro's Ricardo Goulart and Chelsea's Ramires while Gremio goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe has been called up as cover for Botafogo's Jefferson.
