Mysore, Oct 12: The young man Mallesh, who came under the rear wheels of a private bus near Bandipalya here on Monday, met the tragic end but what many do not know was a heart-rending fact that he died while saving the lives of three children and a lady accompanying them.
Mallesh, hailing from Thirutha-nahalli in Gundlupet, had joined a hotel near Bandipalya only three days ago and was standing on the footpath on that fateful day waiting for a bus to travel to his village at around 11 am.
To his utter shock, Mallesh noticed a bus taking a sharp turn to avoid another bus which was coming in reverse gear and while doing so, it overshot the footpath.
The alert Mallesh, on noticing three children and the lady, who were standing on the footpath when the surging bus was only inches away, rushed to them and pushed them away from the footpath thus saving their lives. While doing this noble act, the samaritan was crushed under the wheels.
Few people noticed the whole sequence of events and were aghast and heartbroken at the same time for that young man, for whom others' lives were as precious as his own.
It could have been a major tragedy had the mishap occurred in the peak hour between 9 am and 10 am when a large number of school children wait on the footpath for bus.
