Mumbai suburbs will have a total of 7,741,930 voters


Mumbai, Oct 5 (Mid-Day): Voters who don’t get election slips at home now have a reason to smile, as the Election Commission has decided to install special counters at polling stations where voters can collect their election slips on the day of the election.

According to Mumbai Suburban District Collector Shekhar Channe, “From July 31 to September 17 this year, 83,771 new voters have been added to the voters’ list. In Mumbai suburbs, there will be total of 7,741,930 voters, of which 4,264,851 will be male voters and 3,476,943 will be female. One hundred and thirty six voters will come under the ‘other’ category.”

The distribution of voter slips is expected to be completed by October 8. Four thousand five hundred and eighty eight officials from the state government, 3,069 from central government, 7,945 teachers from primary schools, 11,672 teachers from secondary schools, 1,475 junior college teachers, 2,829 teachers from degree colleges and 10,696 officials from other educational institutions have been called for election duty.

In addition to this, 43,024 officials from Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) and The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) among others, have been called for duty.
