Mangalore, Oct 4: The nine-day Mangalore Dasara that started at Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple by CM Siddaramaiah reached its climax on Saturday Oct 5 with tens of thousands of devotees thronging the cavalcade which began from the temple in the evening and will end early morning at the shrine.
As dusk set in, the rituals were performed in the temple premises prior to the procession which took to the streets of the city. The procession will move through Lady hill, Ballal Bag, Kodialbail, PVS, M G Road, Hampankatte signal, Market road and finally making its way back to Kudroli temple.
The tableau carrying the life size picture of Narayana Guru leads the procession, while other 12 tableaus carrying idols of lord Ganesha, Adishakti, Navadurga (Goddess Durga in her 9 manifestations) and Sharadha Devi follow Guru's way. The nine km long cultural procession witnessed participation of whooping 58 numbers of tableaus prepared by the devotees.
It could be observed that cavalcade routes were illuminated and according to the temple authority, 20 lac LED bulbs are used for the illumination spending crores of rupees to beatify Mangalore Dasara. The procession floated with the rhythms of numerous music bands arrived to mark the celebration.
The 23rd year of procession was observed with devotional fervour by elected representatives, thousands of people of the city and those flown in to Mangalore from across the state and the country.
