Mangalore, Oct 12: The communal clashes that ran havoc in the city and its surroundings for about 7 days seem to have taught a lesson or two to most of the residents.  While many measures have been taken to avert such problems in the future, the clashes have brought together persons and organizations which used to be at distance earlier.  Except some anti-social elements of all the communities, most of the people from all the communities aspire to live a peaceful and harmonious life.  To this end, they are ready to forgo all their egos, prejudices so that unity dwells in the land.

This is the prime motive of the newly-formed "Sahodara Vedike" (Fraternity Forum), a forum of Hindu, Muslim and Christian youth organizations.  The first meeting of the same was held on Wednesday October 11 at MIFT premises at Kankanady here.

Speaking on the occasion MIFT founder president M G Hegde said that owing to the selfishness of a handful of persons, the entire city has been suffering.   "These people give an emotional colour to even a small incident and make it a big issue.  If this continues for long, we may lose the SEZ which has been sanctioned for us.  This anti-social elements need to be nipped in the bud itself so that we live a harmonious life," he said.

He further said that people who strive for the social and economical upliftment of our society should stand together.  "It is with this motto that we have started this forum," he concluded.
