Mangalore: Congress members clash during Gandhi Jayanti celebration

Watch Video:

Mangalore, Oct 2: In an irony of sorts, a verbal clash erupted between members of the district Congress committee over the issue of discipline, when they gathered to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary near Town Hall here on Thursday October 2.

After garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, district Congress interim president Ibrahim Kodijal said that people should follow the example set by the Father of the Nation and lead a disciplined life like he did.

At this point, former president of Youth Congress Arun Coelho interrupted Kodijal's speech and told him not to preach about discipline and values propounded by Gandhi, when he had himself 'failed to follow them'.

This led to confrontation between supporters and detractors of Kodijal, bringing to fore the indifferences within the district Congress.

It is learnt that when chief minister Siddaramaiah had come to inaugurate the Regional Science Centre at Pilikula on Wednesday October 1, Ibrahim did not get a pass to enter the airport and had allegedly misbehaved, resulting in a minor clash between the Congress leaders. For this reason, Coelho is said to have taken a dig at Kodijal for speaking on discipline.

MLA J R Lobo and MLC Ivan D'Souza among others were present on the occasion.

Yes...this the way to treat people who think they can hide their faults or mistakes by a fake speach.. Just for not issuing pass at airport nobody has authority to question MLA , and embarass him in front of the crowd. Not MLA job to issue pass. KODIJAL duty to hav arranged it. N nobody talks bout indiscipline of Kodijal, wher were these so called Gandhiji follwers when Kodijal misbehaved at airport..So anybody can go against Gandhian principles other than Oct.2nd. Is this what the commentators do and expect from others?? Think n comment...there are 2 faces for a coin...where were these principles when some were caught in parliament watching blue films or nude pictures. Just because it wasnt Oct 2nd they are clean people? Parliament is meant for such jobs?

This is a lesson for all politicians. Now a days people will not agree for fake speech like KODIJAL. People will teach a lesson in public. Mr J R Lobo elected MLA for Mangalore and well known indiscipline person. In front of CM Kodijal used abuse language for the simple reason of Pass to go inside the Airport. Being he himself has a party district President he should arrange the pass for congress leaders and workers. Instead of that he is fighting with elected MLA in public. Decent MLA dint talk one word back to his President. If i was there in his place i would gave left and wright. Anyway good work done by J R Lobo followers. We r not in any party. We only respect our MLA. Sir u just go a head and let good work go on.

So on the contrary, v must listen n never retaliate to any person, who only gives talks on peace but does not practise. It was only a verbal clash friends...to show ppl the true face of the person giving talks on peace. But doesnt practise in his life

Really shame for the people of the congress party. They appear like buffoons. Then , what better can be expected from these people?. Or may be they are marching forward to accomplish Mahathma's desire of winding up and dismantling the congress party. Some old timer, honest congressmen are telling that Mr Poojary would have prevailed upon the Modi wave and won the last Lokasabha polls but for the internal groupism and rivalry in the party. It is high time for them for an introspection.
