Mangalore, Oct 2: "The Yettinahole project is not for providing drinking water, but is a strategy to sell the Netravati river and make money," alleged Dinesh Holla, convener of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya.
He was addressing a protest organized by Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya against the Yettinahole drinking water project near DC's office here on Thursday October 2.
"This project costs Rs 37,000 crore, which could shoot up in future. Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya severely condemns our representatives for supporting the project," Holla added.
"The administration should hold a meeting with protesters who oppose the river diversion project by October 25. If not, we will gherao district incharge minister during the Rajyotsava celebrations," he warned.
Kuthar Thimakka and team and Bantwal Nada Maninalkore self-help group protested in a unique way by singing Paddane. They also demanded the resignation of all elected representatives of the district.
The protesters placed six mud pots filled with Netravati water. The pots will be given to the political representatives of the district later.
Dinesh Shetty, M G Hegde, Kedige Aravinda Rao, Harish Adiyar, Rajesh Devadiga, Swapna Noronha, Madhav Ullal among others were present.
