Bantwal, Oct 2: The accused in the Sangabettu, Siddakatte molestation case has been re arrested by police after the public protested against his release.
The molestation was reported yesterday by Daijiworld. The arrested person Sirajuddin (27) son of Abbas from Sangabettu was let out on interim bail and was enjoying freedom only after two days of committing the alleged crime of molesting.
The victim was a first year degree student of a Bantwal college. Sirajuddin had also threatened the victim of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident.
Even before the first arrest was made at Kasba, the people in large numbers had gathered at the police station demanding Sirajuddin’s arrest. Petitions were also submitted to Tahasildar and police department.
Now again people had to protest for the re arrest. The crowd was bigger this time.
Upon learning that Sirajuddin was released on interim bail, the traders in Siddakatte closed their shops voluntarily in silent protest on Wednesday morning. Auto rickshaws too joined them by stopping their vehicles. A large crowd of thousands including the students gathered later to protest about the release of the accused. B Nagaraj Shetty, former minister also attended the protest among many BJP leaders and workers.
Going by the demand from the public, the police re arrested the accused to be produced in court again. The court remanded the accused to judicial custody for 15 days.
The crowd also manhandled a person who was filming the protest in his mobile phone only to be saved by the police. A large number of police force had to be deployed during the protest.
