Panaji, Oct 10: Goa bench of Bombay high court on Tuesday directed the state authorities to strictly implement the Goa state pollution control board’s order of closing nine industries in the Cuncolim industrial estate in south goa.

Bench comprising of Justice Dr S Radhakrishnan and Justice N A Britto, in the order passed today, directed south goa collector and goa industrial development corporation to ensure strict compliance of the closure notices issued by the Goa state pollution control board.

The court also directed National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in coordination with Goa state pollution control board experts to study the environmental impact assessment and disposal of solid waste of all these companies and submit report by November 20.

The court has also directed the industries to deposit Rs 50,000 each within three days to cover the costs of NEERI study. The matter was adjourned to November 27.

The court issued orders after hearing the public interest litigation filed by a resident of cucolim Oscar Martins, who was represented by advocate Aires Rodrigues.

Advocate general Subodh Kantak represented the state while advocate Gilman Coelho Pereira represented the Goa state pollution control board.
