Bantwal, Oct 1: A person has been arrested by the police in a molestation case.
The arrested person is Sirajuddin (27) from Sangabettu. The incident took place near a lake at Sangabettu, Siddakatte of Bantwal taluk.
The victim, a first year degree student of a Bantwal college was walking on the road when the accused arrived in his pick up vehicle and followed her for a while. He then got down from his vehicle suddenly and after allegedly touching the victim inappropriately, he molested her with the intention of raping her, it is said. The victim shouted for help and her uncle who was nearby came to her rescue. Upon seeing him, the accused managed to flee from the scene.
The girl who knew the accused had informed her family earlier about his advances, but nobody knew that such situation would arise. The victim has also revealed that Sirajuddin threatened her with dire consequences if she talked to anybody about the incident.
The family of the victim lodged a police complaint later. The police managed to apprehend the culprit from Kasba only after the people gathered at the police station demanding his arrest.
Meanwhile students from various colleges of Bantwal taluk have demanded to protect the girls who walk on the roads alone. They have complained that the safety of the girls presently is not guaranteed. The petitions have been submitted to tahasildar and police department.
Sirajuddin has been remanded in judicial custody.
