John D'Silva Elected president of KBM, Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 30: John D’Silva, veteran of the co-operative movement in the metro and Konkani protagonist, was elected president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Maharashtra, during the annual general body meeting held on Saturday 27 at Saraswati Mandir, Mahim, Mumbai.

Albert W D’Souza, a renowned entrepreneur, Chairman of Model Bank and educationist, was elected vice-president, Henry Lobo, chairman of Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) elected as Chairman of KBMM and Konkani dramatist and writer Lawrence D’Souza-Kamani, as general secretary for the next term of 3 years. Walter D'Souza, Jerimeri was elected as General Treasurer for the next term.

Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra is the oldest institution working for the cause of Konkani language and culture. It organizes several events throughout the year in Mumbai to promote Konkani language. Poet meet, Talent competition, Poetry competition, Konkani Manyata Diwas, Seminars and workshops in Konkani are organized in Mumbai at various intervals.

P N Shanbhag, Victor Concessao, Stanley Dias, Cyril Castelino, Pascal Lobo, Michael Fernandes, Rosario K Fernandes, Richard Mathias, Francis Olivera, Albert G. D’Souza, Antony Bothello, John R. Pereira and Betty Nazareth are the committee members for shouldering the job of continuing Konkani Language to the next generation through their selfless and continued services.
