Mumbai, Sep 30: Dynamic woman entrepreneur Shobha Mendonca, talented tennis player and former president of KEL Dubai, has been conferred with the ‘Woman Business Achiever Award’ by the Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Mumbai, for her exceptional skills as woman entrepreneur and success in the male dominated arena of entrepenuership.
Shobha Mendonca, hailing from Mangalore, is a long time resident of UAE, running Middle East Factory established in 1997 and located in Al-Qouz Industrial Area, Dubai, in the capacity of managing director and the director of finance and administration of Reliable Fabricators LLC, Dubai, and Reliable Metal Const. Industries LLC, Sharjah. These companies specialize in design and fabrication of structural, non-structural, and architectural metal works for the construction industry. Under her leadership both companies have grown to a workforce of 750 employees and have become major players in the steel fabrication industry in the UAE. The companies have executed work on prestigious projects such as Burj Khalifa, Emirates Towers, Atlantis, Cleveland Clinic, New York University, Mafraq Hospital, Sheikh Zayed University, and Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 in the UAE and other Gulf countries. She is a force to be reckoned with in a predominantly male-dominated construction industry and has been featured on the cover of ‘Metal Works’ magazine.
The award was presented in Mumbai recently by Ajmer Diocese Bishop Dr Pius D’Souza. In other categories, the ‘Excellent Businessman Award’ was given to Edward Menezes (social service award), Fr John Rumavo (excellent education achievers award), Dr Tanki F Thekkekara (social service award), Cinthia Baptista (social service award), and Rendel Romel (young business achievers award).
The award ceremony was presided over by CCCI executive president Henry Lobo and Ajmer Diocese Bishop Dr Pius D’Souza was the chief guest. Janet Lawrence D’Souza, vice-president of Maharashtra state minority commission was the guest of honour.
Shobha is the wife of James Mendonca, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist in Dubai, and current president of Mangalore Konkans Dubai.
