Dubai, Sep 29: Melwin D’Silva, a native of Mangalore, Kulshekar, has been appointed as the regional manager of Air India for Gulf, Middle East and Africa. This is a rare position secured by a Mangalorean in one of the largest airlines in the world.

Melwin, an MBA graduate from B K School of Management in Gujarat, joined Indian Airlines in Ahmadabad and has worked in various capacities including as the country manager in Pakistan between 2006 and 2008.

Melwin has also served Mangalore between 1998 - 2002 and again in 2011-2013. He has also given his service as station manager for Goa, Indore and Ahmadabad.

He joined Indian Airlines in 1986 and has been working in airline for more than 27 years.

Melwin will be based in Dubai and will be responsible for airline stations in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jeddah, Riyadh & Dammam, entire Middle East and Africa.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Melwin said, "This is a bigger responsibility and has a challenging work head. Though solving problem is not possible overnight, he has assured that all the problems faced by the Air India or Air India Express passengers will be treated on priority, and solved soon".

He has requested people to keep faith in Air India as it’s a national carrier which is involved in many of the emergency requirements wherever Indians reside.

"Will bridge the gap between the expectation and service delivery to the valued customers; maintain the standards of the airlines as per Star Alliance requirement and maintain relations and looking forward for a fruitful tenure", he added.

A simple and humble personality, Melwin in his late 40s, is aware of the expectations of Air India and Express passengers. He has already begun his mission to make Air India customers satisfied.
