Daijiworld Media Network-Mangalore (SHS)

Mangalore, Sep 28: Many auto drives were seen rushing to Taluk office building in the mid hours of Sunday as the police found an auto-driver’s body hanged inside the unused portion of the building here near State Bank.

The deceased has been identified as Sudhakar Shetty. On prima facie, the police suspect it to be a suicide case. The other auto-drivers of the state bank auto stand said he had to hand over Dasara fund collected for almost a year to the driver’s association today. His body was hanging to the wooden beam laid across the roof. Shetty, resident of Kanduka, was operating his auto from State Bank auto stand.

An auto driver who knew Shetty on the condition of anonymity told that there was a scheme to raise fund for Dasara festival and Shetty was in--charge. According to the scheme from the day one of last year’s Dasara, state bank auto driver’s association collected fund for celebrating this year's Dasara festivities.

It is learnt that the money was in his procession and he had to hand over the cash collected to the tune of Rs 2 lac by today. “Few days back Shetty was claiming the money has been looted citing irregularities in the gathered sum”, he added.

The driver further said that Shetty had filed a complaint in connection to alleged grabbing of money at Kadri police station.

The Bandar police arrived on the spot and carried the dead body of the driver to the government hospital for autopsy.

    Very sad. RIP.
The scheme to raise fund for Dasara festival should have some method to safeguard the fund collection. They should form an association with president, secretary and Treasurer as the office bearers. They should have receipt books, account book and a bank account to deposit the days collection by the treasurer that is approved by both the president and the secretary.
If a huge sum of money is given to a simple and even honest auto rickshaw driver, he is tend to spend a portion of the collected fund for some unforeseen personal demands with the intention of putting it back that sometimes never happen. Further the greed to spend more of these fund, sometime to invest in quick money making scheme put him into more trouble. To cover this he take more money from this fund and it becomes never ending viscous circle.

He might have lost the money but people will torture him if he not handed over it on time. That may be the reason, as he could not face the people and decided to end the life.
May his soul rest in peace.
