Sports centres to come up in Punjab's border areas


Chandigarh, Sep 27 (IANS): The central government will set up multipurpose sports centres in every block of the border districts of Punjab, union Sports Minister Sarbnanda Sonowal said here Saturday.

Sonowal, who met Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here, said that the centres would be set up in the border districts of Ferozepur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur.

Badal had urged the sports ministry to help Punjab in combating the evil of drugs by funding sports projects and related infrastructure, especially in the border districts.

Sonowal told Badal that the union government would set up a multi-purpose sports centres in each block of the border districts at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore and it will be spread over an area of seven acres.
