Mangalore, Sep 26: A major mishap was averted in a fast food restaurant at Ullal here on Friday, September 26, after a gas cylinder caught fire while it was being changed.

Fortunately, the gas cylinder did not blast but it was enough to send a panic wave among people who rushed out of the restaurant.

The gas cylinder was kept outside the restaurant where the fast food was being prepared in a thickly populated area at Ullal. The cook went inside to change the cylinder when the mishap took place.

It is learnt that the washer of the cylinder was missing because of which the gas caught fire. The locals could not extinguish the fire. The cylinder was burning for about 30 minutes. The fire brigade was summoned who extinguished the fire.

The food items were spoiled in the incident.

The Ullal police came on the spot and took control of the situation.
