Asiad boxing: Akhil Kumar bows out


Incheon, Sep 26 (IANS): Indian boxer Akhil Kumar failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the men's light weight (60kg) division in the Asian Games, going down 1-2 against Charly Suarez of the Philippines' at the Seonhak Gymnasium here Friday.

In a gripping contest, both boxers started the match aggressively with Akhil taking the first round 10-9 in an unanimous decision from the judges. But Suarez made a strong comeback to win both the second and the third round to claim the contest.

Suarez won the second round 10-9 in an unanimous judges decision and clinched the third round by a split decison.

Akhil Kumar was a gold medalist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi
