Mangalore, Sep 26: 'Joshiana 5.0', a two-day national-level IT fest was off to a splendid start at St Joseph's Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor here on Friday September 26. The fest is being hosted by 'TechnoCrats', the students' association of the department of computer applications, SJEC, for the students of MCA, M Tech, MS and BE (CS & IS).
Joshiana 5.0 was inaugurated with the lighting the lamp by dignitaries which included Fr Denzil Lobo, director of AIMIT and rector St Aloysius College, who was the chief guest.
The other dignitaries present on the dais were Fr Ajith Menezes, director incharge, SJEC who presided over the ceremony, Fr Rohith D’Costa assistant director, SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis principal, SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal/dean-MCA, SJEC, Anushree Raj HOD MCA, SJEC, Sathyendra Bhat J, staff coordinator for Joshiana 5.0, Ragesh Raju co-coordinator for Joshiana 5.0, Naveen Poojari, president of TechnoCrats) and Nisha K, secretary of TechnoCrats.
The function began with the invocation of the divine by Ona Melissa Pinto and group from III year MCA. The gathering was welcomed by Anushree Raj, who extended warm wishes to all the people present during the Inaugural and dignitaries were then felicitated by the staff. Naveen Poojari briefed the gathering of the events that would be held over the two days. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp which officially declared 'Joshiana 5.0' open and the unveiling of the trophies for which the participants were competing against each other. The official logo of TechnoCrats' was also unveiled by the dignitaries on the occasion and the official Android app of the 'Joshiana 5.0' was launched.
Chief guest,Fr Denzil Lobo addressed the gathering wherein he voiced his opinion on coping up with the growth in technology and also stressed on entrepreneurship and the culture to be followed in the IT industry.
Fr Ajith in his presidential address advised the students to choose what is good for them and leave the bad. "How you live your life is your choice," he added.
The curtains were drawn on the inaugural ceremony with the vote of thanks delivered by Preema Viola Pereira, from III year MCA, thereby declaring the fest open to all. The MC’s role for the inaugural ceremony was donned by Fariyal Arif from III year MCA.
Several events are being conducted by the MCA students over the two days, with judges being
invited from in and out of the college. All in all, 16 teams have registered for Joshiana 5.0 and around 180 participants are vying for the top spot.
The fest is comprises 9 events, namely - Codigo Friki (Coding and Debugging), IT Concorso (IT Quiz), Juego Recinto (Gaming), Web Dibujo (Web Designing), Producto De Imaginacio(Product Launch), Applicacion Evolucion (App Development), IT-Parialmento (IT Parliament), Bueno Administrador (Best IT Manager) and Teatro (Culturals). The events are designed to test the technical mettle of the participants.
