Bhatkal, Sep 25: Three persons were injured after clashes erupted between two groups, allegedly both from Congress party, at Murdeshwar near here on the night of Wednesday September 24.
The injured have been identified as Abdul Jabbar Haji Buran (45), Mohammed Nasir Shaikh (42) and Raju Rama Naik (35).
Speaking to media persons Nasir Shaikh said that on Wednesday at around 9 pm, he along with four of his friends - Dharma Naik, Yaseen, Pawan Kumar and Abdul Jabbar - went to a restaurant for dinner.
When they came out later, around 8 persons came by 4 bikes and enquired about a certain Kumar. As Kumar was not at the spot, arguments ensued and for nearly half an hour the two groups clashed.
It is said that on the previous night, persons identified as Zamindar Krishna Naik and Kumar Naik had been to the same restaurant. Krishna Naik had newly joined the Congress party while Kumar was an old member. It is learnt that a minor clash erupted between them, but soon the matter was settled through compromise.
However, on Wednesday night, a group including Raju Rama Naik came to the restaurant asking for Kumar, allegedly with an intention to assault him. Kumar was at home at the time of the incident.
Immediately after the incident, Dharma Naik filed a complaint with Murdeshwer police against Raju Rama Naik and 8 others.
Abdul Jabbar who was seriously injured on the head was taken to Manipal after initial treatment at RNS hospital. A tense atmosphere prevailed for sometime at the hospital.
Bhatkal DySP Muthuraj, circle inspector Prashant Naik, PSI Subanna, Honnawar CPI Manjunath Gowda and others arrived at the hospital.
Speaking to media persons, DySP Muthuraj said that it was an internal clash. "We will take strict action against all those responsible for the incident," he said.
