New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS): Two northeast teams - Nilamani English School of Manipur and Meghalaya's Khrumdiengei Secondary School - topped their respective groups to enter the quarter-finals of the 55th Under-14 Subroto Cup International Football Tournament at the Ambedkar stadium here Wednesday.
The Manipur side beat Namchi Sports Hostel from Sikkim 1-0 to top Group E while Khrumdiengei Secondary School, Meghalaya, defeated Loseling Lower Sec School, Bhutan, 2-0 to clinch Group G top spot.
In other matches, Government Model High School, Chandigarh, drubbed Zahira College, Sri Lanka, 7-0 in a Group F match while Bangladesh's Kidha Siksha Pratisthan downed Air Force Bal Bharti School 1-0 in Group H. Both teams qualified first from their respective groups to join the two northeast sides in last-eight.
Manipur's Nilamani English School take on Government Model High School, Chandigarh, in the first quarter-final and the Meghalay school will play against the Bangladesh side in the next quarter-final Friday.
In the first quarterfinal, the Manipur side face the Chandigarh school while the Meghalay school play against the Bangladesh side in the next last-eight match. Both the quarterfinals will be played at the Ambedkar Stadium Friday.
