Mangalore, Sep 24: A resident of Daregudde Vittalagudde in Moodbidri here was found to have died under mysterious circumstances near his house on September 12. It is now learnt that a couple near his house allegedly killed him by hitting him with a wooden staff.

The deceased has been identified as Raghu Bhandary (63). His neighbors Maurice D’ Costa (58) and his wife Carmine D’Costa (50) have been arrested in this regard.

It is said that wild animals used to enter the couple's fields and destroy the crops. The couple used to make noise by beating on a tin box to drive away the animals. It is said that Raghu Bhandary objected to it, saying that it disturbed his sleep. When Maurice banged on the tin again on September 12, it led to an argument between Raghu and the couple.

It is said that during the quarrel, Maurice, in a fit of anger, snatched a wooden staff from the hands of Raghu Bhandary and allegedly hit his head with much force. Raghu staggered towards the fields near his house, collapsed and died there. The couple who saw Raghu fall dead, grew frightened and reportedly threw the body in a canal near his house, it is learnt.

The body was found by the victim's family the next morning. As there were marks of injury on the head and the body, they suspected foul play.

The police who registered a complaint, after questioning some people, came to know that Maurice and his wife had a hand in the killing.

As the couple admitted their guilt, they were arrested on Monday September 22 and produced in the local court which sent them to judicial custody for 15 days.

History witnessed: ACTIONS TAKEN IN ANGER HAVE ALWAYS WRONG. Whenever you get angry, come back from the spot calm down.....both parties sit together and make rightful decisions. The matter should always conclude with better understanding. Promise you will have good peaceful sleep in your life. End of the day you do so much for your well being. If you want to quarrel fight and die then what is the use of all your hardwork. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I am really shocked by knowing such a tragic death of so kind and friendly person whom we fondly called Raganna. I was a regular customer at his Murukaveri saloon during my p. u. studies at Pompei Collage, Kirem during 1970 as Nicholas D'souza fondly recalls. Though we cant see you any more physically, you will be alive in the hearts of so many friends you had during your life time. May your soul rest in peace.

RIP departed soul!! We cannot imagine how even simple disputes can take lives in a fit of anger!!

Looks like the victim was getting irritated with the noise and he was constantly bickering with this couple, who in a 'fit of rage' attacked him not with an intention of killing him but seeing him dead, they disposed of the body to avoid trouble!! Now this act in a 'fit of rage' has ruined the lives of this middle aged couple and their dependents, empathize with them!!

I am reminded of a similar incident which happened in the US wherein a depressed patient was constantly getting irritated by the barking and howling of dogs in his neighbors house for which he complained to the neighbors repeatedly but to no effect!! One fine day he became so enraged that he went to the neighbors house and shot dead both the dogs and their owners too at one go!!

So, even if such incidents appear to be trivial but we never know what the other person getting irritated might be going through due to various reasons like mental problems or constant loss of sleep!!

Anger is one of the 7 deadly sins. It has resulted into one loss of life and life long suffering for 2 more.

Poor Maurice.. Perhaps He couldn't afford to maintain a Gun to shoot these wild boars once for all instead of scaring them by noise which lead to these consequences.

Going through the above report, It looks like its not an intended or premediated murder case. Feel sorry for the deceased Raghu whom I know since long and was very social and very simple person. May his soul Rest In Peace.
Equally feel sad on the culprits who have lost everything the fields, tins and even the mental peace. May be regretting this cruel act of theirs. What a pity. Have seen people fight for simple things and end up and pay a heavy price for it.

Did they sleep peacefully? I doubt, any person committing crime, leave alone can sleep peacefully, must have had a great guilty conscience. Only they could have done was to have surrendered to the police.
Who know what was their mental stage at that time.
I honestly feel, however if a person repents, he can not bring alive the dead person. The same could be the state of these killers.
What was not to happen has happened. Feel very sad for the deceased, who was my old friend of my friend, also to the culprits (if have not intentionally murdered)and their family.
May God give them strength to repent and bear the loss of the dead one.

Raghu was a polite and humble person. He had a barber shop at Moorukaveri near Kirem during 1970s. We used to commute in the same bus while I was studying in Pompii College, Kirem. In recent times he shifted his saloon near Kateel Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple. I met him recently after a gap of 25 years when I was on vacation. He is not deserved such a cruel death. Culprits must be punished severely whoever it may be. His soul R.I.P.

COLD BLOODED MURDER. It looks as if people have lost all respect for lives. Killings - murders and rapes are becoming too common in Dakshina Kannada which was once a very peaceful place inhabited by peace loving people.

Law enforcement people should come down heavily on these murderers and set them as an example to others.

A good neighbourhood is always better than a far relative.Thats why one should be careful not to disturb it by fighting or talk bad about them. Here it Shows how it can lead to with even small things. Now the couple can beat drums in jail without neighbours complaint.silly People hitting a Person to death. They could have atleast try to help the wounded man and apologize for their deed. No,they throw him into canal.Sorry These People should get the required punishment. Not only that, they should pay to the deceased Family a good amount of Money. My heartfelt sympathy to the Family of deceased.
