Mangalore, Sep 23: In a tragic incident that took place at Shibaroor in Suratkal here on Tuesday September 23, a youth lost his life while saving his friend from drowning.

The deceased has been identified as Sujith Alva (22), a resident of Kana. He worked as an electrician in Baikampady. The incident took place while he saved his close friend Sujeeth from drowning after he was pulled away by the water while bathing in Nandini river.

Apart from being an electrician, Sujith was also into shamiana business. It was practice to wash the shamiana and other materials in Nandini river near Shibaroor, and as usual, five youths who are into the same business went to the river to do the washing. Sujith Alva and his friend Sujeeth came there by bike. The two friends got into the water for bathing while the co-workers washed the shamiana at the another end of the river.

While bathing, Sujeeth got pulled in by the currents and began shouting for help. Sujith rushed to his rescue and managed to bring him to safety, but before he could get out of the water, he too got pulled in by the water, it is learnt.

His co-workers rushed to his rescue, but could not save him. Locals and fire personnel arrived at the spot and after some efforts, retrieved the body by night.

Suratkal police have registered a case.

RIP Sujith. I salute to you.

I also salute two Muslim boys who saved a Hindu girl who fell under the train risking their lives and took her immediately to the hospital in Ghatkoper, Mumbai when hundreds of people watching and doing nothing. On Raksha Bandan day, that Hindu girl called them to her house and tied raki.

Also, yesterday, in Moradabad, when a Hindu girl fell into the sewer, two Muslim youth jumped into the sewer to retrieve her, but, unfortunately, all three died. It is heartening to note when the Muslim boys' coffins were carried, Hindu women showered flowers and petals on the coffins. Also, Hindu men gave shoulders to the coffins.

A young life is lost but this is a Great act. Lord Jesus Christ said there is no greater love than to give one's own life for the other (firend, neighbour etc) in this world. He loved his friend /partner in business so much that he gave his lofe for him. Surely he will be in paradise and will be remembered for his brave act. May his soul rest in peace.

While you read about murders and rapes, is enlightening to see brave people like Sujit saving a life at the cost of his own.

Hope the people around and the police consider giving the members of the bereaved family suitable awards.
