China in men's tennis final for first time in 24 years


Incheon, Sep 23 (IANS): China defeated Japan 2-1 to enter the men's tennis team final for the first time at the Asian Games in 24 years.

Wu Di, the first Chinese man who has played a Grand Slam, lost to Nishioka Yoshihito in the first match but China's No. 1 Zhang Ze made it 1-1 with a win over Sugita Yuichi, reports Xinhua. Li Zhe then paired with Gong Maoxin to beat Ito Tatsuma and Uchiyama Yasutaka 2-1 in the doubles to seal the win.

China will fight for the title against Kazakhstan Wednesday.

Chinese women's team, comprising veteran Zheng Jie and rising stars Duan Yingying and Zheng Shuaishuai, also defeated Japan in the semi-finals by a score of 3-0. They will face Chinese Taipei in the final.
