New Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS): The local organising committee of the 2017 Under-17 FIFA World Cup Tuesday appointed Javier Ceppi as tournament director and Joy Bhattacharjya as project director for the football extravaganza to be held in October 2017 in India. They will resume office Nov 1.
"We are extremely pleased with the appointments as both Javier and Joy bring a great amount of experience and expertise to the table," All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das said.
"Javier was involved in the 2013 U-17 World Cup in UAE and is also a director of the 2015 U-17 World Cup to be held in Chile. He brings to the table a great deal of knowledge on how these tournaments are conducted. Joy has a good experience of media activities."
The committee that made the appointment comprised Das, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) deputy general secretary Windsor John, FIFA development officer Shaji Prabhakaran and AIFF executive committee member Subrata Dutta.
Dutta had earlier interviewed all the candidates in August. The short-listed were then interviewed by AIFF president Praful Patel. The committee will be based at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
