Mangalore Sep 23: Students led by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday September 23 organized a protest rally demanding the arrest of culprits who allegedly created a fake Facebook account, and misused pictures of girls by posting them on a page titled 'Sexy Models Hot Girls'.
The protest was organized in the premises of the police commissioner's office here.
Addressing the protest, district organizing secretary of ABVP Lavin Kotian said, "This is a strategy to defame the reputation of girls by misusing their photos. Such incidents jeopardise the future of students and they may also discontinue their studies.
"Cases of kidnapping, sexual assault, going missing, and love Jihad have been increasing in the coastal region. The police department should immediately arrest the social evils who created the account and misused the photos of girls and should book them under a non-bailable offence," he demanded.
"The police authorities should immediately arrest the culprits or else ABVP will intensify its protests," he warned.
Sudith Shetty, taluk convener of ABVP said, "Perverts are misusing photos of girls by creating Facebook accounts with obsene names. Though a complaint has been filed, no action has been taken even after five days. Crimes against women are increasing rapidly. The police department should be quick in probing the matter and arresting the culprits."
Jayesh P K, city secretary also lamented that the police have failed to take action despite the complaint being lodged.
A memorandum was submitted to the city police commissioner. The protest rally was held from Besant Women's College to commissioner's office.
