Mangalore, Oct 2: A protest was staged by the Janajagriti Samiti recently in front of the KIADB in Baikampady here to demand compensation for people who would be evacuated from 1,500 acres of land near Bajpe here. The land is proposed to be procured for expansion works of MRPL-ONGC.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in which they said that the board must retain Kanderi Dhoomavathi Temple and Kinnipadav Mahakali Temple during the land acquisition process and also demanded that people who would be evacuated should be provided with 25 cents of plot each in Bajpe.
Among those present were Samiti honorary president B P Kava, president Surendra Pergade, vice-president Gopal Amin, secretary Shivaram Poojary, joint secretary Roque Lobo, organising secretary Shamit Rai, treasurer Madhav M Amin, joint treasurer Lokesh Poojary, gram panchayat member Suma Shetty and others.
