Mangalore, Sep 23: In yet another smuggling attempt, gold worth Rs 18.75 lac was recovered from passenger at Mangalore International Airport here on Monday September 22.
The gold was concealed in the rectum of the passenger, it is learnt.
The accused passenger has been identified as Abdul Rahiman Sulaiman (43), a resident of Kasargod, who arrived by Air India Express flight IX384 from Dubai.
The DRI officials found six tola bars weighing 699.90 grams, valued at Rs 18.75 lac, concealed in his rectum.
The operation was jointly conducted by the DRI and customs officers of Mangalore International Airport.
Abdul Rahiman was arrested and produced in court.
The above operation was conducted under the supervision of Pravin Vinod, assistant commissioner of customs, by a team led by H B Venkatesh, superintendent, along with superintendents R S Venkataraman, Marcus Pereira, R G Gaonkar, and inspectors Jai Shankar, Ramakrishnan, Subhendu Ranjan Behera, Kamlesh Kumar Meena and havaldar K Ramani along with DRI officers P Vijayan and Ganapathy Hegde.
Further investigation is in progress, under the guidance of commissioner of customs.
