Bhatkal, Sep 23: Two undertrials escaped from police custody while being brought from Dharwad jail to Kundapur via Bhatkal here on Monday September 22 night. One of them was later caught.

Rashid Moidin Beary from Shiroor and Azharuddin from Udupi were lodged in Dharwad jail for different cases of robbery. On Monday, there were being taken to Kundapur for a court hearing, when they managed to give a slip to the police while in Bhatkal.

It is learnt that the two undertrials were supposed to be kept in Bhatkal sub-jail overnight and taken to Kundapur the next day. At Bhatkal bus stand, the duo told the police they had to answer nature's call, and managed to escape from the washroom.

The police who soon realized that the duo had gone missing, began a hunt and succeeded in catching Azharuddin. He was then taken to Bhatkal sub-jail.

Bhatkal PSI Johnson D'Souza along with his team arrived at the spot.

Rashid, who hails from Shiroor, has a house in Bhatkal. He was arrested in 2008, and in 2009 he had escaped from police custody, only to be arrested again. He is said to be involved in robbery and dacoity cases in Bhatkal, Udupi and Mangalore. A hunt for him is on.

WHAT A POLICE INACTION ? THEY CAN'T CATCH A THEIF BUT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO HOLD A THIEF INCASE EVEN IF HE CAUGHT.
THIS MAY BE 100TH CASE THEIF ESCAPE WHILE ANSWERING FOR NATURE'S CALL.
STILL POLICE ARE NOT TRAINED FOR THAT MATTER OR MAY BE MATCH FIXING.

Don’t blame Police. Its duty of State Govt to UP GRADE the infrastructure of Police dept.

1.Police dept still utilizing " Bed Ford" Truck/Vans.

2.No maintenance Police station and many building counting their days.....Some station are worst than Slum Area Houses….

    3. There is NO modern Forensic Labs or well train forensic expert ( Like US / EU / Korea/ Japan/ China )
At least State Govt established in every Zone ( under DIG / IGP )

    4. Helicopter squad or Speed Boats OR Expert Divers / Air Ambulance is distance dream…..

5 Constables still utilizing HEAVY British Era “ Lee Enfield 303 Bolt Guns “ instead of Light weight Rifles.

6.There NO well maintain Armoury in Police station for Police as well Civilians Fire Arms….

7.Hundred’s of Traffic Police’s suffering from Lung Cancer or Lung related deceases…..

Wow Great Escape, how times you are going to give them chance to escape, its like a film story, what type of cops we have, unfit. Rashid has a very good record of escape, robbery, plus he has house in Bhatkal, for me it looks like comedy of errors. HA HA HA HA.

I don't understand why the police is so ignorant?. Why don't they transfer such criminals in a vehicle which has portable toilet or similar arrangements.

If police encounters the escaping criminal, then tax payers are going to be poor by anohter 20 lakhs as we have already experienced in the case of Cow thief Kabir....

If police does not encounter, then you will blame police for inaction...

What a dilemma to the police department...:-(:-(
