Indian paddlers leave for Asian Games

New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS): A 10-member Indian table tennis team spearheaded by Achanta Sharath Kamal left for Incheon from here Monday to take part in the ongoing Asian Games.

The table tennis events will be held from Sep 27 to Oct 4. The team was accompanied by two coaches -- Peter Engel and Bhawani Mukherjee.

The coaches said they were upbeat about the team's chances of putting up a good show. However, Engel admitted that it will be a tough task to do well in team events but expected the Indian paddlers to do well in individual events.

“In team events, we have no chance of any medal but I will be happy if our paddlers are able to finish among top eight positions. Our boys can do well in individual events,” he said.

The teams:

Men: A. Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh, Harmeet Desai, Antony Amalraj and Sanil Shetty

Women: Ankita Das, Madhurika Patkar, Poulomi Ghatak, Manika Batra and Neha Aggarwal

Coaches: Peter Engel and Bhawani Mukherjee
