UAE police investigating Indian girl's death at sea


Dubai, Sep 22 (IANS): Police in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are investigating the death of a five-year-old Indian girl, who was drowned while swimming with her mother in the turbulent sea Sep 18, a media report said Monday.

The girl drowned while swimming with her mother in the Liwara area of Umm Al Quwain, one of the seven sovereign emirates in the UAE, The National reported.

Police sources said the operations room received an emergency call from an Indian man reporting that his wife and daughter had got into trouble in the water.

Ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene and the mother and child were taken out of the water and transferred to hospital, police said.

However, the child was already dead, while the mother is still receiving treatment in hospital.

The source said an investigation was under way in the case. Police said that they have urged the public to avoid swimming at night or in turbulent sea conditions.
