Riyadh: Roshan Rodrigues, Pramila Rodrigues qualify for GVOM-4 finals

Media Release

Riyadh, Sep 22: The semi-final round of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4 proved every bit to be an entertaining as well as a nail-biting contest, at the end of which Roshan Philip Rodrigues, Bendur (Gavngo Chedva Muzo Gavngo) and Pramila Rodrigues, Udupi (Muja Kalzachi Haryek Udi) were declared as "Voice of Arabia".

The GVOM 2014 semi-final was organized by Aangann Konknnechem Riyadh on Friday September 19. The winners will now expand their horizon of singing talent and put their skills to test at the grand finale which will be held on November 7 in Muscat.

Vishwa Konkani Kala Ratn Eric Ozario and Yodelling King Melwyn Peris from Mangalore were the judges at GVOM semi-finals in Riyadh.

The programme was compered by Ronald Olivera from Dubai, who added much charm to the event with his dashing and enigmatic style, and announced the opening of GVOM 2014 semi-final in Riyadh. He made a grand entry to the beat of music, accompanied by a thunderous applause from the audience. The programme began with a welcome dance by Mega Riya followed by a welcome speech by the AKR president Arun D'souza.

The main sponsor Anil and Flossy Albuquerque, co sponsors Kevin and Muriel Nazareth, judges Eric Ozario, Melwyn Peris and AKR president Arun D'Souza lighted the lamp and inaugurated the competition. The six female contestants were Shallet D'Silva (Bendur), Nirmala Castelino (Shankarpura), Chinnu D'Souza (Bantwal), Mridula Dias (Barkur), Inish Fernandes (Mudrangadi) and Pramila Rodrigues (Udupi) along with six male contestants Roshan Philip Rodrigues (Bendur), Jerald Rodrigues (Gurpur), Ambrose Corderio (Venoor), Lancy Lasrado (Bantwal), Vincent Moras (Barkur) and Alfred Fernandes Sirsi were escorted to the stage by the secretary and co-ordinator of Aangann team Roshan Glen Lobo and Carol D'Souza and were introduced to the crowd by compere Ronald Olivera. Carol D’Souza, Mangalore thanked all the sponsors and Arun D'Souza honored and felicitated them on stage with a Shawl and a floral bouquet. The judges were also felicitated with shawls and mementoes. The compere and contestants were felicitated with mementos as well.

The competition began with the curtain-raiser song "Gulf Voice of Mangalore". The cultural programme began with a foot thumping dance performance by the talented and enthusiastic Caron Reena D'Souza (Mudarangadi), the sisters duo Chrishal and Geshal Mendonca (Mudrangadi), Alisha Corderio (Venoor), and Melissa Paula to the tune of popular hindi music. The crowd also witnessed a 'dhamdaar' performance by the dynamic brothers Karan Raj and Kiran Raj Nazareth (Udupi) to the popular music from 'Dabangg'. No dance is complete without a touch of Indianess to it, and rightly so we were spellbound by a Bharatnatyam dance performance by Sharon and Shalom Fernandes (Shirthady). More colour was added by the black and white 'Robot Dance' number performed by the youngsters from " Brothers Group" Riyadh. The children had carved a place for themselves among the audience with their electrifying performances. It was indeed a treat for sore eyes!

The adults were not far behind. A rib tickling skit ‘Dunga’ was put together by Herald D’Souza (Mudrangadi), Inish Fernandes (Mudarangadi) and Roshan Lobo (Bondel) had everyone laughing their hearts out. The crowd went hysterical right from the word go as they watched a comedy show called " The room rent" staged by Glen Roshan Lobo ( Bondel), Roshan Rodrigues (Bendur) and Carol D’Souza (Urva). They left the audience laughing for a very long time adding fun and a dash of happiness inside the hall.

Ronald Olivera amused the audience with his witty and original jokes. Eric Ozario and Melwyn Peris mesmerized the audience as they set the stage on fire. The atmosphere at the venue changed as they sang melodies konkani numbers that had the audience on their feet. It was an opportunity never to be missed. The lively atmosphere finally disperesed to the dining area where delicious food was awaiting the guests.

On this occasion Konkan Sardar Wilson Olivera's “Naveekarann” Konkani Hits Vol 7 was launched by Eric Ozario, Melwyn Peris, Arun Palimar along with Ronald Olivera.

Roshan Lobo, secretary of Aangann Konknechem Riyadh proposed the vote of thanks. The programme came to an end with the announcement of the winners of the Voice of Arabia contest. While everyone in the auditorium waited with bated breath for the results, the announcement itself was splendid, not just because of the deafening applause that followed it, but also because of the expression of triumph as well as intense emotion that it brought upon the face of the winners. It was indeed an evening to cherish for a very long time.

The main sponsors for the event were Anil Flossy Albuquerque, and co-sponsors were Kevin Muriel Nazareth, Alphons Lasrado, Allen Carol D’Souza and Vincent Blanch Sequeira.

Congratulations dear Arun & Team for organizing this gr8 event..

(Local Organizers should note that either minus tracks or live band to be used for the full length of the competition and not the both. That means it can not be for some competitors given opportunity to sing with minus tracks and some with live music.).
spl congrats only to Roshan for singing with minus tracks
