Udupi, Sep 21: It seems when it comes to sexual assault, even animals are not spared. In a bizarre, heart-rending incident, unidentified men allegedly used a one-and-a-year-old calf to derive sexual gratification near the labour colony in Padoor of Majoor village here on Sunday September 21.
The calf belongs to Narayana Kulal of Padoor Shantigudde. Police have already taken four suspects from the labour colony for questioning.
Narayana Kulal had tied the calf near his house and left it to feed on the fodder. Sometime later, the calf went missing and on searching, he found the calf in a nearby wooded area. He also noticed blood on the calf as well as stains at the spot where it was found.
He then saw a youth walking around holding a bottle of liquor and caught hold of him. The locals who had gathered there by then realized what had happened and began looking around the area and caught the other youths, it is learnt.
On receiving information, Shirva police inspector Ashok P and other police personnel rushed to the spot. A tense atmosphere prevailed as locals expressed shock and anger over the incident, and police tried to calm them down. With the help of the labour colony manager, the police took the four youths into custody.
Assistant director of animal husbandry department Srikanth Phadke and Shirva veterinary doctor Arun Kumar Hegde examined the calf and said that it seemed to have been subjected to sexual assault.
Hundreds of people gathered at the spot. Kalathur Janajagruti Vedike members demanded immediate eviction of the labour colony.
Further investigations are on.
