Mangalore, Sep 21: Eight persons were injured in clashes that erupted between two groups in Pavoor Debbeli of Harekala village under Konaje police limits here on Sunday September 21. All of them were admitted to hospital.
The injured have been identified as Mithun Poonja (25), Prasad (28), Girish Acharya (33), Satyaprasad (30) and Sachin (25), who are recuperating in KS Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte; and Pavoor Baithar resident Fayaz (23), Ameer (25) and Azharudhin (20) who are undergoing treatment at Deralakatte's Yenepoya Hospital.
It is said that trouble started about two days ago. Debbeli resident Jayanth was out with two of his friends when Nizam, a resident of Baithar, came in his auto and reportedly mocked the trio. Angered at this, Jayanth and his friends allegedly hit Nizam.
Later, Nizam along with his brothers and friends went to counter Jayanth at his house, but instead, went to the wrong house. During inquiries about Jayanth's whereabouts, heated argument took place between Nizam's group and another group.
A case in this regard was registered in Konaje police station and it was decided to close the matter after reaching a compromise.
However, on Sunday, clashes erupted again between the two groups. Those injured in the fight, blamed the other group for the clash.
Fayaz, one of the injured, said that he was walking along the road to attend the inauguration of a new mosque with Ameer and Azharuddin, when a group of around 15 people came with deadly weapons and assaulted them. He said that he was injured on his back and legs and his friends too were injured.
On the other hand, Mithun from another group said, "After finishing our usual RSS meet, we were walking towards a ground near my house discussing about matters concerning the RSS, when a group of more than 40 people attacked us with deadly weapons. Girish Acharya was seriously injured in the head, and I was assaulted with weapons on my neck and back. Prasad, Girish, Satyaprasad and Sachin who were with me have been injured."
It is said that Mithun Poonja's house was damaged during the clashes.
A case has been registered in the Konaje police station.
