This accident could have been averted had the RTO authorities enforced vehicle fitness rules by insisting for doors!. How come there is are doors for city and service buses in Mangalore ?. Who issues Fitness Certificates to these buses ?. Why Police authorities do not book cases against the Motor Vehicle Inspectors for allowing this kind of situations/ willful negligence on the part of inspecting officers ?. The RTO authorities could have simply rejected the fitness certificate of this bus during annual inspection for not having doors. Isn't it dangerous to ply buses without doors especially to keeping the children and old, women etc in mind ?. There is a bus operators lobby silencing everyone here. I am a lawyer by profession. I am really pained by seeing this kind of man made tragedies occurring in and around Mangalore due to sheer negligence of public servants / govt officers. I think it is high time that citizens come forward and file a case against the RTO / M.V.Inspectors for issuing fitness certificate to city and service buses without having doors. I will file the case in public interest at my cost. But, more and more people should come forward by forming citizen action groups as mass and class legal actions will only be appreciated by the High Court / Lokayukta etc in these kinds of matters. Should we wait for some more accidents and loss of life on the roads ?. Supreme Court of India has recently passed a landmark / strict ruling directing the govt to take preventive measures based on a PIL filed by a doctor. People should use the law in the larger interest of public. Laws should be activated. For silly / petty matters people go upto Supreme Court. Unfortunately, Public spirited citizenry is lacking these days. Lets wake up. Set the law into motion for the same of society. Vivekananda Paniyala. Advocate.

1. Tomorrow I am going to submit a Memorandum of Appeal [ MoA] to D.C of D.K. District and also the Commissioner of Police to enforce the safety regulations particularly with respect to front and rear doors. A copy will be forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Govt. of Karnataka.

2. I will share the copy of the MoA with those who are concerned and interested in this matter. They can directly send letters by mail sitting in any part of the world. Let’s do something concrete instead of passing just comments to news reports.

It's the same old story, when such an incident/accident occurs, people are angry , disrupt traffic for a couple of hours, and then everything goes on as usual, till the next incident occurs. If I am not wrong, every month there is an incident in some part of mangalore but especially on the ullal,talapady thokkutu route. Firstly the last step of all buses should not exceed 30 cm from the ground. Conductors and drivers should be trained that human life is more important than competition. If therse two things are adhered to we can minimize accidents to a great extent.

Its happen due to negligence of drivers and conductors. Strict rules and regulations has to be adopted before giving permit to the private buses.If any such incidents occurred the permit has to be cancelled immediately, so that others will be alert in the matter.

these bus drivers will never learn the value of other people's lives. sitting on top they feel like a king.. specially the bus drivers in talapady route my mom had this kind of near miss many many times in the past. she used to always complain. these guys should be booked for murder and put behind bars for ever only then the others will fear the law. this case will also be smothered as accidental death the bus driver will be fines a petty and and let go. its a shame...

South canara is known as land of intelligent people. It is because earlier, lot of SSLC and PUC rank holders belong to this land. But remember that not 100% are all equally intelligent. However, the attitude of our people is that we are the best(?)You can find that attitude more common among auto drivers, bus conductors, beedi-beeda shop owners etc.
The bus conductors are not only rude but offensive too. Have you seen them making fun of poor Bijapur labours as 'gowdas"??
The bus drivers think that they were formula 1 drivers in their last life.There is absolutely no traffic and common sense among these creates.
The auto drivers are simply 'animals' as they do not have any simple and basic manners.
But who will 'bell the cat' for these intellectuals??
In the present case file 'murder' charge on both driver and conductors, because of there negligence one innocent soul lost life!

I do not understand why the steps on buses are so high. It makes people very hard to get on and off the bus. Also if they put a extra person conductor or a cleaner to keep an eye on people while entering and exiting the bus, many accidents and deaths will be prevented.

Dr Shetty,be courageous and start the action. From long time I was requesting Mangaloreans to join the fight against Rowdy Drivers of buses. I have given call numbers to call in and inform the police control room. You do not have to give your name but call and inform the Police about the behavior. There are very very few did this.
Starting immediately,either do it now OR else loose your loved ones. Today it is Amina and tomorrow may be your lover,spouse,your Child,your Sibling or your Parents. Also keep a eye on Ambulance drivers because I observed them putting up Hero Show. Stop the tippers which carry dirt,sand and other materials without covering it. If they are spilling load contact PCR or closer Traffic station.

Govt buses are nothing less. i have seen the over speeding of mangalore/udupi govt buses (red volvo). They come very close to the footpath with full speed and no chances of survival at all if a pedestrian faces it. The inside the bus person will survive but a pedestrian is finished forever

Last 5 days i am seeing Mangalore RTO police busy in catching only two wheeler riders, that too in some un known locations,
are they(RTO ) really bothered about the way city private buses are flying,making roaring sound,irresponsible driving killing pedestrians has been increased.but still there is no actions, it is high time for people of region will take appropriate action against this.

@avani, mlore ...we had one bus back in 90's . 47 no route to bajpe ..not remember full name something like " st Joseph". This is the only bus i had seen when i used to travel in bus those days whose drivers and conductors were totally careful in driving and taking care of passengers... both driver and conductor of this bus were in their old age and very patience..

It was operated by Majunath travels from Old Airport to Udupi. There was also one more bus operated by the same company named as Shravan and people preferred to travel on that bus.

Firstly.. My prayers for RIP to thr departed soul.
How many death due to negligence of Bus owner,drivers & conductor. Our RTO and law of traffic violation is spineless. Killers get bail and no appropriate punishments and financial compensation for the crime .so called accident. Here, its very much the cleaner/conductor might have given right.poyee whistle to driver .. Without seeing whether the passenger is on seat or standing secure.. This accident should be taken seriously and RTO should inspect buses for safety standards of foot boards steps, overcrowding during busy hours and unsafe driving and violation of traffic rules.. Fines / challan to be issued and permit should be cancelled for violators...

RIP departed soul!!!DK is one of the worst places with regards to public transportation that has been given to this pvt. bus cartel, they just do not care for any rules or anybody, only in the hurry to increase their daily collections!!

Unless such type of incidents are dealt with strictly and heavy penalty imposed along with compensation for the innocent deceased they are not going to be tamed!! Also, it is high time the authorities think of starting a Govt. run city bus service on the lines of the professionally run 'BEST' buses of Mumbai!!

I have experienced similar instances whenever I visit Mangalore as the steps are too steep either to climb or get down (I am a senior citizen - 77 yrs.) Moreover the drivers are reckless and impatient. The RTO should inspect all the buses specially for the height of the steps and should streamline the system. Also, the seats meant for Sr. citizens are invariably occupied by youngsters and ladies who refuse to vacate when requested.
