Mangalore, Sep 19: A person who can take both birth and death with an equanimous mindset and is able to practice a sense of detachment and altruism when alive and also upon death, leaves behind a footprint that is reverred and worth emulating. People of the coast are known for their gentlemanly behaviour and friendly attitude. A policeman who lost his life in a tragic road accident on Wednesday in the city has exhibited to the world that policemen from the coast are as friendly and as humanitarian as the common people living here.
Bhaskar (48), who was a commoner working for the police force, met a tragic death in road accident. But he upheld exceptional human values by donating his organs, thus leaving the people of coastal Karnataka proud of him. Bhaskar, serving as head constable in traffic (east) police station here, is remembered as a friendly person. By donating his eyes, he has provided meaningful existence to two human beings, while his kidneys will come as saving grace for two more.
By opting to donate his organs when alive, Bhaskar has risen to be a role model for others in the land. As per his own accord, his eyes and kidneys were donated after he died in a terrible road accident at Pumpwell Circle in the city.
Bhaskar was simplicity and gentlemanliness personified. Because of his excellent work and duty-conscious attitude, he had come in for lavish praise both from his colleagues, higher ups in the department, and the general public. Although his death was unexpected, untimely, and gory, he and his legacy will live on in the form of four persons who will be immensely thankful to this noble soul, explained former city corporator, Padmanabha.
Brother of the deceased head constable's wife, speaking to Daijiworld, stated that his brother-in-law had served at different police stations in the city, and that the donation of organs as willed by him was executed by doctors of KMC Hospital here. He added that he was told by the doctors that this gesture of Bhaskar has resulted in saving four lives.
Bhaskar, who was on duty when he was moving in a two-wheeler on Wednesday morning, was killed after a Maruti car hit his vehicle from the front side. A constable named Ashwini Shetty was injured in the accident. Shetty is undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city. Bhaskar's wife, who was shocked by the sudden demise of her husband, stands hospitalized. Bhaskar, who has left behind wife and a 12-year-old daughter, has held high the humanitarian concern even in death.
Let us bid adieu to this great man with a salute of reverence, and with the fervent wish, 'may his tribe increase'.
