Kasargod, Sep 19: In a shocking incident, an elderly woman was allegedly murdered by her son, daughter-in-law and grandson at Bedadka here.
The deceased has been identified as Ammalu Amma (65). Police team led by Kasargod DSP Ranjith have arrested the three accused.
The arrested are identified as Perladka Jeppinadka residents Kamalaksha (47), his wife Ambika (40) and their son Sharath (20).
Ammalu Amma was a quarry worker. Her body was found hanging in her house on Wednesday September 17 and it was initially believed to be a case of suicide. However, her relatives and locals expressed suspicious about the cause of death, and after post-mortem at Periyaram Medical College Hospital, it was established that Ammalu was murdered.
The post-mortem report stated that she was strangled to death. When her son, daughter-in-law and grandson were questioned by the police, the truth came to light.
Police said that property dispute led to the murder of the elderly woman.
It is learnt that Ammalu Amma was strangled to death by Ambika on Tuesday September 16 night when she was sleeping. Kamalaksha and Sharath allegedly hung the body to make it look like a suicide. The accused confessed to their crime during interrogation, police sources said.
Kamalaksha, the only son of Ammalu Amma, had reportedly sold his mother's property bought another property. The house was bought in the name of daughter-in-law and the land was registered in the name of the son.
It is said that there were frequent quarrels in the house as Ammalu Amma was urging them to transfer the ownership of the house in her name, and for this reason her son and wife allegedly decided to eliminate her. Ammalu's grandson Sharath is a student of BSc (computer science).
