Bangalore, Sep 18: A couple living in Andanappa Extension in Dasarahalli on Tumkur Road in the city was arrested and taken away by a police team from Andhra Pradesh that had arrived here for this purpose.
The arrested persons have been identified as Krishna alias Kumar (40), and his wife, Laxmi (35), who were living in a rented house owned by Ramanaiah from Andhra Pradesh. The couple, it is said, hails from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
It is gathered that the duo, which had been staying in the city since the last six years, was active in Naxal-related activities. The couple has no issues, and normally no one came to visit them, neighbours said. However, recently, Krishna's parents had visited the couple.
Taking cue from the above visit, a team comprising eight personnel drawn from Andhra Pradesh police and Anti Naxal Force visited the above address and arrested both the above persons on the night of Tuesday September 16. The police team also succeeded in recovering three mobile sim cards the couple had procured from Andhra Pradesh. It is said that the couple used these sim cards only during their visit to that state. The police department, it is learnt, is in possession of records to prove that the couple used to communicate with Naxals by using these sim cards.
In normal course, policemen visiting other states for arresting accused persons keeps the local police informed of the operation, and sometimes, even seeks help to avoid untoward incidents. However, in this case, the Andhra Pradesh police had maintained the operation a well-guarded secret, and kept the local police in the dark, it is said.
