Udupi,Sep 17: Inspector of Manipal station, along with other police personnel, raided Broadway Boarding and Lodging located at Eshwar Nagar in Manipal here on Tuesday September 16 night. The raid was conducted based on reliable information received by Karkala sub-division assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai, about a brothel being run there.

The police reportedly found that immoral activities were going on at the lodge. They took into custody eight accused, identified as Sachin Kumar AB (32) alias Santosh Kotian, son of Shyam Poojary alias Ravikumar, residing at Kunjal, Brahmavar, Jaffer Syed Khan (39), son of Syed Khan, resident of Swalat Colony Bhadravati, Shamshuddin (39), son of Abdul Khader from Nehru Nagar, Sagar, Shimoga district, N V Krishna Nair, son of T Krishnan from Eshwara Nagar Manipal, Bhoja, son of Mudura Devadiga from Paduvari in Udupi district, Anil Kumar, son of Sheenappa, native of Jaipur in Chikmagalur district, and Siraj from Eshwara Nagara Manipal.

These persons have been accused of abetting prostitution activities. Two ladies from Bangalore and one from West Bengal were also arrested from the lodge.

Krishna Nair is the owner of the lodge, while others include some staff involved with running of the lodge, it is gathered.

The raiding party also confiscated cell phones, a Maruti Omni van, cash, etc used for these activities, after making an inquest. A case stands registered in Manipal police station against the accused under section 3, 4, 5A, 5C and 6 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Investigation is progressing.
