Udupi, Sep 16: JCI Udyavar – Kuthpady organized 'Udaya Apoorva Samsara 2014', a unique contest for families, as part of Jaycee Week at Soundarya Residency, Udyavar, here on Sunday September 14.
Addressing the gathering, PPF Y Sukumar, director of JCI foundation said, "JCI is an institution which supports and develops personality of an individual. It also provides a platform to build leadership quality of an individual. Organization such as JCI is need of the hour”.
He further said that a good citizen is an asset to society. He thanked all the supporters, directors of JCI Udyavar, adviser and all those who directly or indirectly helped in the success of JCI Udyavar – Kuthpady at the national level. JCI functions are supported by Rotary Club and Lions Club, he added.
Bhaskar A Kotian and Shri Kumar Pithrody were felicitated during the programme for their dedicated social service. Scholarships were distributed to the meritorius graduates on the occasion.
Vijaykumar, Udyavar, a member of gram panchayat said JCI intends to collect funds for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir. During the valedictory ceremony, the institution will hand over the donation money to district incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, he said.
Kannada film actor Rajaneesh of ‘Nanu Hemanth Avalu Sevanti’ fame and ‘Rang’ Tulu film actress Deekshita Acharya were present on the occasion.
During the JC week, JCI members will carry out different events for people of all age groups.
For the first time in Udyavar, JCI Udyavar-Kuthpady held a unique contest ‘Udaya Apoorva Samsara 2014’ after the inauguration at 5 pm. The participants were asked to represent three generations. Ten families representing three generations from different localities actively participated in the contest. The contest lasted for five hours and consisted of three rounds.
Shekar Kotian and family from Pithrody, Udyavar emerged as the winner and was awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000. U Narayan and family, and Paramesh and family bagged the first and second runners-up spots, and walked away with cash prizes of Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
In all, a thousands people from in and around Udyavar participated in the event.
R Sabhapati, former MLA, Ramesh A Bangera, proprietor, PMJF Suresh Prabhu, district governor Lions Club, Subhas Bangera from Udaya group, Manipal, Michael D’Souza, former president, Allan Rohan Vaz, former president JCI India Zone XV Jagadish Kumar, director of JCI week, Harish Putran, treasurer and president JCRET Vijetha Dayanand among others were present.
Dayanand welcomed the gathering and presided over the programme. Roshan Crasta proposed the vote of thanks.
