Amy Winehouse statue unveiled in London

London, Sep 15 (IANS): A life-size bronze statue of late singer Amy Winehouse was unveiled in Camden town neighborhood in north London on the occasion of her 31st birth anniversary.

Winehouse’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse, and fans gathered to remember the late singer Sunday, reports The Guardian.

“It’s a day of incredibly mixed emotions. They don’t put statues up for people who are with us anymore so it reinforces the fact that physically she’s gone but spiritually she’ll never leave us. I feel sad, very, very sad,” Mitch said.

Created by sculptor Scott Eaton, the statue is mostly colourless -- aside from a red rose in Winehouse’s signature beehive hairdo.

Winehouse died at the age of 27 in July 2011 due to alcohol poisoning.
