Karkala, Sep 12: In a swift operation, the policemen from here succeeded in taking into custody a person who has been accused of raping a girl, within hours of the incident.
The accused in this incident has been identified as Pradeep (26) from Kalya village, who works for a bar located at Udupi bypass road.
A 20-year-old girl had complained to the local police that she was walking home at around 6 pm on September 10 in Kalya village by walk after leaving her workplace at the close of work hours, when the accused dragged her away and raped her in a deserted spot. The accused then went away, and reported for duty at the bar where he works as if nothing had happened.
The victim filed a police complaint at about 10 pm the same day. Assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai, immediately led a team of policemen that raided the bar where the accused works, and took him into custody. This prompt action of the police has come in for appreciation.
In the meanwhile, the accused, during his questioning, confessed that he had tried to rape a girl from the same area sometime back. The minor girl, studying in a school, was returning home when he had pulled her by hand. The girl had succeeded in wriggling out of his grip and running away to safety then.
The girl, who had dithered from filing a complaint then, filed a complaint about the incident after the accused was arrested. He was produced in court on Friday September 12 and remanded in judicial custody.
