Mangalore, Sep 12: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) health officers on Friday September 12 raided scrap shops located in the public area at Bibi Alabi Road, Bunder, Mangalore. Shops which were running illegally without licence were demolished.
Speaking to daijiworld MCC health officer Dr Manjayya Shetty said that scrap shops had been built in the public area and their owners did not possess licence either. He also assured that the shops would not be seen again as the MCC was strict against such illegal business operators in the city.
The department in the coming days would carry out similar drive to make Mangalore a healthy city, he added.
"We are going to build public toilets in these areas and we will see to it that the shops are not opened again in the same spot. These scrap shops were a nuisance as the shop owners were throwing scrap materials all over the place which was creating problems to the locals," he said.
Some of the shop owners brought their own vehicles and took all their belongings with them and cleared the area. There were a few spare parts of cars, which the MCC confiscated.
The MCC team headed by senior health inspector Bharat Kumar under the direction of health officer Yashwanth and others were part of the raid operation.
